Hand Painted Talavera Tiles from Mexico

Hand painted talavera tiles are known commonly in North America as Mexican ceramic tiles. In Europe painted Talavera tiles are called majolica but, in the end, it is the same product handmade in different geographical locations. Mexican Talavera tiles are produced in Puebla and Dolores Hidalgo. Talavera has been made in those cities since its foundation, and any visitor will swiftly observe the beautiful pottery that embellishes many of the churches and the facades of historical buildings at the main streets of the city providing the town one of its nickname, the “Metropolis of Tiles”. The local pottery is actually recognized as “Talavera Poblana”. Our workshops are based in the Guanajuato area where the artisans are continuing this incredible and multicultural tradition of hand-crafted and painted ceramic tiles with rustic finishing. Also, being located in Mexico gives us an enormous advantage in pricing as the production of Mexican Talavera tiles here is much cheaper compared to other national and foreign suppliers.

Tiles from Mexico can be divided into four, main groups which include hacienda style, classic colonial with Spanish character, folk art and plain color that can be solid or washed, creating a more rustic look. Because we are offering thousands of designs and patterns, we wanted to make it easier for our clients to choose the right Talavera tiles and we created sub-menus with different types of tiles such as high relief tiles that are perfect for star raisers, tile murals, ideal accents for kitchen backslash or solid color tiles that can be installed on bigger surfaces such as walls and floors. As for the aesthetics, again we have patterns for any taste and style. If what you are missing in your layout is a little bit of a rustic flair but you prefer to keep it simple you can choose among many solid, one-color relief Mexican tiles. They will add a vintage ambiance due to its texture, they still can be used as the primary color for your bathroom or kitchen walls without getting dizzy.

For those who are brave and love bold designs, we can offer many Southern, figurative patterns and geometrical designs in multicolored from the classic white and blue, to totally jazzy turquoise, purple and strong yellow, green and browns. Talavera tiles can be easily used as accent tiles for pop of colors. You can use them to highlight a Mexican or Colonial style by mixing it with wooden vintage furniture, ethnic textiles and exotic plants and flowers. There are many Mexican Talavera tiles designs on the market. Most of our ceramic products are offered in three sizes. Those are 2x2, 4x4 and 6x6 inches. Some Talavera tile patterns are for sale as 1x1. However, if the size is not exact, you can always cut them to the height you require.
